about

My dear friend and guitarist Tim Ellis passed away last year. He was loved by many in Portland, Oregon, for his guitar playing, energetic stories, and commitment to helping other musicians. His presence is dearly missed. I can’t bear to take his name and phone number out of my contacts, or delete his emails and messages. He provided enormous support to me as a musician, playing guitar in my records and shows, producing, encouraging and believing in my music. Saying goodbye is difficult, and I’ve attempted to do so with a song. I wanted to honor him, acknowledge his death, but also celebrate his life. The song concludes with a Tim Ellis style jam, and features a protégé of Tim Ellis on guitar, Josh Martenson.

lyrics

Beautiful resonance made by seasoned hands
Flying like the wind we loved to watch them dance

Farewell, my friend, farewell
And now I say farewell

Now we all look for ways to press replay
Of all the joy you shared with us beyond yesterday

Farewell, my friend, farewell
And now I say farewell
Farewell, my friend, farewell
Somehow I say farewell

Listen up to the sky, there’s a song
It’s your guitar in the stars, the angels sing along
